What You've Been Waiting For: Yet More Eastside Pics, and a Video!

The big problem with this set of Eastside pics is that I took them a few months ago, and now I don't even remember where or what most of these things are. It seems like the whole area east of E. 55th and south of Chester is so full of decay that it'd take a lifetime to document it properly.

At least I was smart enough to take this first picture with the street sign visible -- we started taking pictures approximately where we ran out of batteries in the camera on our last Eastside trip (in RNB #11), at E. 65th and Cedar.

Here's a few shots of an empty former Westinghouse factory, which is apparently on Ashland street, not that I even remember where that is. The way it was laid out made me decide that it might be better captured with a short video rather than a bunch of photos -- so, I took this video using the digital camera, from the car window. The video is 11 MB, so slow connections beware. The deliciousness of the building is improved by the fact that we happened to be listening to the song "Thug" by Swans, and there's few better soundtracks for industrial decay than early Swans. You can also hear a few crickets chirping. . .

I don't know where this was, but I love these triangular roofs! For some reason I want to say it was near E. 105th, but I'm probably totally wrong.

No idea where this was either, and there's not a lot of clues in the photo, but check out those vines! It's really hard to say whether photographing these things in winter or in summer is better -- with winter you get the snow and grey desolation feel, but in the summer you get that whole return-to-nature thing.

This building is around E. 55th and Chester. We couldn't get a photo of it without pulling into this parking lot full of cop cars, but they turn out to be a nice touch. Interpret them as you may.

Another triangular-roof building, adjacent to the same parking lot as above. This one looks like most of the actual building is gone, however.

This building was somewhere both west and north of the golden intersection of E. 55th and Chester. I didn't see it before I took these photos, so I don't know what it looked like when it wasn't mostly knocked down, but it does look pretty good this way!
